Johan Fredrik Rye

Johan Fredrik Rye is a Professor at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo. He previously held roles as Associate Professor (2008–2011) and Professor (2011–2021) at NTNU’s Department of Sociology and Political Science, serving as Head of Department from 2021. His research focuses on migration, social inequalities, sociological theory, and methodology. He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from NTNU (2006), analyzing rural-urban migration through a Bourdieusian class lens.
