Johan Blomberg is an active Associate Professor in Cognitive Semiotics and Senior Lecturer in General Linguistics at Lund University's Centre for Languages and Literature. His research spans multiple disciplines including linguistics, cognitive science, and semiotics, with a particular focus on motion events, language processing, and theoretical frameworks from phenomenology.
Blomberg's research interests center on cognitive semiotics, linguistic structures, and the relationship between language, thought, and experience. His work explores how motion is represented across languages, the cognitive processes involved in word processing, and the philosophical foundations of sign use. He has made significant contributions to understanding event structure and segmentation, particularly in audio descriptions for visually impaired audiences.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research combining linguistic analysis with cognitive neuroscience methods. Blomberg frequently collaborates with researchers across multiple institutions, focusing on how cognitive processes shape language structure and use. His work bridges theoretical linguistics with practical applications in accessibility and communication.
Blomberg has been actively involved in several significant research projects including 'Phenomenology and Typology of Motion' (2016-2018), 'The objectification of space' (2015-2016), and 'Interpreting Events: Scene Descriptions for Blind Audiences' (2015-2017). He co-organized the SLING 2023 conference and participated in the Higher Seminar in Cognitive Semiotics at Lund University in 2019.
As a member of Lund University's research community, Blomberg contributes to the Centre for Cognitive Semiotics and the broader research environment focused on language, cognition, and communication. His work demonstrates consistent engagement with both theoretical frameworks and practical applications of linguistic research.
