Joette Katz is a Visiting Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School and a Partner in the Business Litigation Practice Group at Shipman & Goodwin LLP, specializing in appellate work, mediation, and investigations. She previously served over 18 years as an Associate Justice on the Connecticut Supreme Court, authoring nearly 500 opinions, and held roles including Administrative Judge of the Connecticut Appellate System and Judge of the Connecticut Superior Court. She also served as Chief of Legal Services for the Connecticut Division of Public Defender Services, co-authoring Connecticut Criminal Caselaw Handbook: A Practitioner’s Guide. Additionally, she spent eight years as Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, overseeing child welfare services and legal strategy.
