Joelle Harwin

Dr. Joelle Harwin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine, specializing in Abdominal Imaging and Ultrasound. She completed her medical degree at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, followed by an internal medicine internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center and diagnostic radiology residency with an abdominal imaging fellowship at UCSF.

Dr. Harwin served as chief resident during her final year of residency and has been actively involved in departmental committees including Quality & Safety, Patient Experience Leadership, and resident recruitment. She has authored guidelines on imaging modality size/weight limitations and reading room safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, which were implemented department-wide.

Her research focuses on abdominal imaging with particular interests in cancer in pregnancy, liver imaging in hereditary conditions, thyroid imaging, and postpartum complications. Dr. Harwin has published in high-impact radiology journals including Radiographics, Radiology, and Abdominal Radiology.

Dr. Harwin has received notable recognition including the American Roentgen Ray Society 2021 Certificate of Merit and the American College of Radiology's Young and Early Career Professional Society 2024 grant. She has also held leadership positions with the California Radiological Society Residents and Fellows Section.

She has contributed significantly to radiology education and policy, including being invited to lecture at the Association of University Radiologists 2022 on optimizing relationships between program directors, trainees, and program coordinators to create a sustainable workforce.
