Joel Sensenig is an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University and Assistant Director of Public Works for Lake County, Illinois. As a retired U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer with 25+ years of leadership experience in facilities management, construction services, and multi-million-dollar budget execution, he contributes expertise in civil engineering, sustainable infrastructure, and organizational leadership.

His research interests span facilities management, project execution, and sustainable construction practices. A certified Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Illinois and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP), he combines military operational planning experience with community engagement, including roles on the North Chicago School District 187 Independent Authority and the Lake Michigan Post of the Society of American Engineers.
Joel teaches courses in facilities management and leadership, drawing from his international project management experience across the U.S. Navy's global operations in Puerto Rico, Europe, Bahrain, Afghanistan, and West Africa. He is bi-lingual in English/Spanish and holds advanced management training from Tench Frances School of Business.
