Joel MEUNIER is a CNRS Researcher at the University of Tours, France, affiliated with the Institute of Research on Insect Biology (IRBI). He specializes in evolutionary biology, focusing on social evolution in insects, particularly European earwigs. His research explores social immunity, conflict-cooperation dynamics, and the impact of environmental stressors like pollution and climate change on social behaviors.
- Affiliations: CNRS Research Director at IRBI, UMR 7261; former positions include Assistant Professor at Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Basel.
Research interests include parental care evolution, microbiome dynamics in insects, and the role of social living in mitigating environmental threats. He has advised PhD students like Laura Pasquier and Romain Honorio. His work has been published in journals such as Animal Behaviour, Ecotoxicology, and Insectes Sociaux.
He co-edited a special issue on social arthropods in Insectes Sociaux and organizes the European Congress of Entomology (ECE2026). Current projects include studies on earwig microbiota and ecotoxicological impacts of pesticides.
