Joel Butterwick is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Yale School of Medicine. He joined Yale in 2020 after postdoctoral training at The Rockefeller University.
- Undergraduate: University of Alberta (Biochemistry, 1999)
- PhD: Columbia University (Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, 2006)
- Postdoctoral: The Rockefeller University (2014-2020)
His research focuses on chemosensory detection mechanisms in insects, utilizing cryo-electron microscopy and electrophysiology to study smell and taste receptors. Current work investigates elementary principles of receptor-ligand interactions and sensory transduction.
Research output spans structural biology of ion channels, enzyme dynamics analysis, and RNA-protein interaction studies. Notable awards include the Whitehall Foundation Research Grant (2022).
