Joel B. Dearing is a distinguished academic and coach at Springfield College, serving as an Associate Professor of Physical Education and Distinguished Professor of Humanics (1997-98). He graduated from Springfield College in 1979 and led the women’s volleyball program for 22 seasons (1989–2010), achieving a 595-196 record. His tenure emphasized the Humanics philosophy—integrating spirit, mind, and body—through community initiatives, student engagement, and institutional reflection. Dearing authored columns on Humanics, organized campus-wide events, and advocated for spiritual development programs.
