Joe Soss is the inaugural Cowles Chair for the Study of Public Service and holds faculty positions in the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, Department of Political Science, and Department of Sociology at the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on democratic politics, societal inequalities, and public policy, particularly examining how governance shapes marginalized groups. He is renowned for his co-authored book Disciplining the Poor, which won multiple prestigious awards.
