Joe Santerre serves as a Professor in the Bass department at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches specialized courses including Rock Bass Lines and Slap Bass Lines. With decades of professional experience, he leads his own band while collaborating with renowned artists such as Jeff Golub, Dino Govoni, and John Petrucci, and has performed internationally through Berklee programs in Los Angeles, Argentina, and Costa Rica.
His research focuses on practical bass techniques across rock and funk genres, emphasizing the application of music theory in real-world performance. Santerre has authored instructional materials for Bass Frontiers magazine and is currently developing a finger funk bass line book for Hal Leonard/Berklee Press, bridging academic instruction with contemporary performance practices.
As an educator, he has mentored prominent bassists including Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith and John Myung of Dream Theater, tailoring instruction to individual student goals. His pedagogical approach integrates professional performance experience with curriculum development, contributing significantly to bass education through ongoing projects with major music publishers.
