Joe Neisser is a Professor of Philosophy and an Adjunct to the Program in Neuroscience at Grinnell College in Iowa, USA. His research focuses on the neurophilosophy of consciousness, particularly its subjective or first-person aspects, with current work examining familiarity, attention, and déjà vu as windows into the relationship between memory and subjectivity.

He co-teaches interdisciplinary courses like Neurohumanities with colleague Ralph Savarese and offers seminars on Sellarsian philosophy. His 2015 book The Science of Subjectivity and 2020 chapter on embodied consciousness provide frameworks for neurobiological investigations of consciousness.
