Joe McCall serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Philosophy at Troy University's College of Arts and Sciences, teaching core history courses including Western Civilization, World History, US History sequences, Vietnam War, Alabama History, and American Environmental History.
His academic credentials include:
- BA in American Studies from Idaho State University (1999)
- MA in History from Auburn University (2005)
- PhD Candidate (ABD) in History at Auburn University
McCall's research centers on American environmental history with specialized focus on the Appalachian Trail, informed by his 1996 thru-hike with his son. His scholarship bridges Appalachian Studies, US History, and Environmental History, while his teaching philosophy integrates experiential learning from extensive international travel through Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Current dissertation work examines the ecological and cultural evolution of the Appalachian Trail corridor.
