Joe Lipar is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Ferris State University's College of Arts, Sciences and Education. He holds a PhD in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Indiana University and dual BS degrees in Biochemistry and Zoology from Michigan State University. His work focuses on ornithology, integrating physiological and behavioral ecology.
Education:
- PhD, Indiana University: Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

- BS, Michigan State University: Zoology
Dr. Lipar's research investigates how maternal hormonal investment in bird eggs influences offspring development and survival. This includes studying steroid hormones' role in nestling competition and survival. He teaches Anatomy and Physiology, Endocrinology, General Biology, and Current Topics in Biology, and serves as an advisor to Pre-Med students.
His presentations, including studies on steroid hormones in Red-Winged Blackbird eggs, highlight interdisciplinary applications in endocrinology and developmental biology. Though no recent publications are listed, his work trends focus on hormone-mediated maternal effects in avian species.
