Joe Gosen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Journalism at Western Washington University (WWU), specializing in visual journalism education. He joined WWU in 2014 after 12+ years teaching at Brooks Institute in California. His professional career includes roles as a photojournalist for newspapers and wire services, along with graphic design work at the Reno Gazette-Journal. He co-founded SportsShooter.Com (2002-2023), an online resource for sports photographers.

Research Interests: Focuses on visual journalism ethics, digital media credibility, and the intersection of technology with storytelling. His work explores how visual content shapes public perception, particularly in politically charged contexts like press freedom and cultural debates.

Teaching & Engagement: Instructs courses such as Advanced Visual Journalism and Digital Media in Journalism.
