Joe R. Feagin is the Ella C. McFadden Professor and Distinguished Professor in Sociology at Texas A&M University. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and has held faculty positions at institutions such as the University of Texas and the University of Florida. As former President of the American Sociological Association (2000), Feagin has been a leading scholar in critical race theory, systemic racism, and social justice for over five decades.
Feagin’s research focuses on racial oppression, anti-racist education, and urban sociology. His seminal works include The White Racial Frame, Racist America, and Liberation Sociology, which explore systemic racism’s structural and cultural dimensions. He has authored over 70 books and 200 articles, earning accolades such as the W.E.B. Du Bois Career Award and the Arthur Fletcher Lifetime Achievement Award.
Feagin’s career includes roles like Scholar-in-Residence at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (1974–1975) and editorial leadership in journals like Race and Society.
