Joe Brown is the Programme Leader for the BA(Hons) Early Childhood degree at the University of the West of England's School of Education and Childhood. With 20 years of teaching experience across higher education, further education, and voluntary sectors, he specializes in early childhood development and policy. His qualifications include an MA in Early Childhood, Postgraduate Certificate in Post-Compulsory Education, and BA (Hons) in Social Studies.
Brown's research examines children's play dynamics, school readiness frameworks, neoliberal influences on early childhood policy, children's agency, and inclusive dialogic pedagogy. He also explores technology integration for capturing children's perspectives in educational settings.
Notable recognition includes his Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). He maintains active collaborations with Bath Spa University on research investigating professional development pathways for early childhood educators.
His teaching portfolio covers children's play patterns, meaning-making processes, emerging languages and identities, and early childhood policy frameworks. Brown oversees student placements in early childhood settings throughout the degree program.
