Jodie Torrington is a Lecturer and Project Manager (ACPDE) in the School of Education at Macquarie University, where she researches and teaches in the field of educational technology. Her academic work focuses on understanding how elementary students develop self-regulation skills in digital learning environments, with particular attention to mobile and technology-enhanced learning contexts. As an active researcher, she collaborates on projects with educational institutions and government bodies, including current consultancy work with the ACT Government on inclusive education professional learning.
Torrington's research interests center on self-regulation for learning in digital contexts, examining how students navigate online learning environments and develop metacognitive strategies. Her work investigates the intersection of technology and pedagogy, with specific attention to mobile learning applications in primary school classrooms. Much of her recent research has examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students' ability to self-regulate learning in remote environments, providing valuable insights into educational resilience during crisis situations. She also explores how emerging technologies like generative AI are transforming teaching practices and assessment methods in educational settings.
Her publication record shows a consistent focus on understanding the mechanisms of self-regulated learning in technology-mediated environments, with particular attention to measurement approaches that combine self-report, observation, and teacher assessment. Recent work has expanded to address the implications of generative AI in education, demonstrating her ability to engage with emerging technological challenges in the field. The research demonstrates methodological diversity, employing both quantitative and qualitative approaches to understand complex learning phenomena.
