Jodie Novak

Jodie Novak is a Professor and Chair of the Mathematical Sciences department at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), affiliated with the College of Natural and Health Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Oklahoma State University, an M.S. in Mathematics from the same institution, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Hendrix College.

Her research focuses on mathematics knowledge for teaching in K-12 education, including professional development for teachers, curriculum design, and equity in STEM. She has led numerous funded projects totaling over $7 million, including initiatives like Improving Classroom Culture (Howard Hughes Medical Institute, $1M) and Mathematics Teacher Leadership Center (NSF, $5M).

Dr. Novak’s work emphasizes culturally responsive pedagogy and has been published in journals like Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education and Phi Delta Kappan. She has received multiple awards for teaching, leadership, and scholarly impact, including UNC’s Excellence in Academic Leadership (2014) and Excellence in Scholarly Activity (2017).

Her grants and projects often involve collaboration with school districts and national organizations to enhance teacher effectiveness and student engagement. She has also contributed to national discourse on equity issues in mathematics education through her research and outreach efforts.
