Jochen Petzold

Prof. Dr. Jochen Petzold is a Professor of British Literature and Cultural Studies at the Institute of English and American Studies, University of Regensburg. His academic career includes a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship at the University of Edinburgh (2008–2010) and DFG-funded research on speaker positions in poetry. He has supervised numerous Dissertationen and theses, including Thomas Graf’s work on British invasion fiction and Sandra Stadler’s research on contemporary South African literature for young adults.

Research focuses on Victorian children’s literature, South African literature, and genre theory, particularly the cognitive science approach to lyrical poetry. Recent articles explore Victorian periodicals, postcolonial Africa, and fantasy heroism.

Scientific awards include the Marie Curie Fellowship and DFG grants. He has supervised over 70 theses, from PhDs to Staatsexamen, covering topics like postcolonial identity, gender dynamics, and media representations. Petzold organizes field trips to Scotland and Stratford-upon-Avon, emphasizing Shakespearean studies and Scottish cultural heritage.
