Prof. Jochen Kindler is an Associate Professor and Group Leader at the University of Bern, serving as Head Physician at the Outpatient Department of the University Hospital of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. He also co-leads the Early Detection and Intervention Centre (FETZ) for mental health crises and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bern. His primary research focuses on pathophysiological mechanisms of psychosis, integrating functional MRI, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and biomarker analysis to refine early detection and therapeutic interventions. His work spans clinical high-risk populations, schizophrenia, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Kindler's research emphasizes translational approaches, combining neuroimaging, immunology, and behavioral studies. Key topics include psychosis prodromes, neuroinflammation, and the role of glutamate in internet gaming disorder. He has pioneered studies on EEG microstates as psychosis biomarkers and led evaluations of FETZ’s 8-year impact on early intervention. His contributions also include developing therapeutic protocols using TMS and pharmacological agents like canakinumab.
Prof. Kindler collaborates internationally through initiatives like ENIGMA and has presented at major conferences (e.g., IEPA, DGKJP). His work bridges basic science and clinical practice, aiming to improve prevention and treatment outcomes for youth mental health crises.
