Prof. Dr. Jochen Hoffmann is a Professor of Private Commercial Law at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, with a research focus on civil law, consumer protection law, commercial and corporate law, banking and insurance law, antitrust law, and European/international commercial law. He has held academic positions at the University of Leipzig and the University of Hamburg before joining FAU in 2009.

- Habilitation in Law (2005) with Bavarian Habilitation Award
His research examines legal frameworks in digital markets, consumer finance, and cross-border trade, with recent publications addressing antitrust regulation, AI applications, and EU directives. He contributes to interdisciplinary projects like FAU WiSo’s Insurance and Risk focus area and collaborates with industry partners. Hoffmann has received significant recognition, including the Bavarian Habilitation Award (2001), and maintains active affiliations with FAU’s Department of Private Commercial Law.
