Harald Hungenberg

Prof. Dr. Harald Hungenberg holds the Chair of Business Administration, especially Corporate Management at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU). He has served in this position since 1999 and concurrently holds an affiliated professorship at the ENPC School of International Management in Paris since 2002. Previously, he was Dean of International Affairs at FAU from 2000 to 2004 and a professor at the Leipzig Graduate School of Management from 1995 to 1999.

His academic journey began with business administration studies at Justus Liebig University in Giessen and MIT from 1982-1988, followed by doctoral and habilitation work at the University of Giessen. Prior to his academic career, he gained significant industry experience as a consultant and project manager at McKinsey & Company from 1990-1993.

Prof. Hungenberg's research focuses on strategic innovations and organizational change, corporate diversification and growth strategies, and the influence of capital market actors on corporate strategy. His work is characterized by close collaboration with partner companies, effectively bridging academic research with practical business applications. This approach aligns with FAU WiSo's research profile that emphasizes empirical focus, active interdisciplinarity, and strong industry partnerships.

As part of the Department of Business, Economics, and Social Sciences, Prof. Hungenberg contributes to one of Germany's top-ranked business faculties (within the top 20 according to Handelsblatt). His international engagement through the Paris affiliation demonstrates commitment to global academic collaboration while maintaining his primary academic home at FAU where he continues to shape corporate management research and education.
