Jochen Braun

Jochen Braun serves as Professor of Practice and Director of the Graphic Design Program within the Department of the Arts at The American University in Cairo (AUC). With over a decade of professional design experience, he has established expertise across Service Design, User Experience Design, and Brand Identity. His industry collaborations span diverse sectors including automotive, finance, culture, health, and technology, and he has worked with international clients from Germany, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. Prior to joining AUC, Braun developed and led the Interaction Design program at the German University in Cairo (GUC) for nine years.

Braun's academic focus explores the intersection of design with community dynamics, social practices, and civic engagement. He champions sustainability and inclusive methodologies to empower communities in domains such as health, culture, gender equity, urban mobility, and education. His pedagogical approach emphasizes real-world application and social impact, fostering student development through community-centered design projects.

As an active design practitioner, Braun founded BRDGE Studio, a creative platform for innovative design solutions, and co-founded the 100/100 Hundred Best Arabic Poster competition. This initiative celebrates and advances Arabic visual communication by highlighting exceptional poster design from across the Arab world, thereby nurturing regional design talent and cultural expression.
