Joaquin M. Prada is a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and Co-Director of the Surrey Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence (PAI) at the University of Surrey. He holds academic affiliations within the School of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and the Institute for Sustainability. His research focuses on developing mathematical and statistical models to inform policy decisions for controlling and eliminating infectious diseases, particularly neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) such as rabies and echinococcosis. He collaborates with global organizations like the WHO and the United Against Rabies forum.
Education: BEng, MEng, PhD, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Key research interests include zoonotic disease dynamics, One Health approaches, and the integration of economic evaluations with public health strategies. Recent work includes studies on PRRSV transmission in pig farming systems, antibiotic resistance in non-built environments, and rabies surveillance in Nigeria. His interdisciplinary work bridges epidemiology, veterinary science, and environmental health.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding climate impacts on disease (e.g., salmonellosis), socio-economic factors in helminthiases, and the design of effective surveillance systems like OH-EpiCap.
