Dr. Emma Taylor is a Surrey Future Fellow at the University of Surrey's School of Veterinary Medicine and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainability. Her research focuses on economic analysis of disease control, conflict and disease risk, poverty-disease linkages, and healthcare inequalities. She holds affiliations with the London Centre for Neglected Tropical Diseases Research and the Diseases of Neglected Communities Research Group. Taylor's work bridges veterinary and human health through a One Health approach, addressing zoonotic diseases like rabies and neglected tropical diseases in marginalized populations. She has published extensively on rabies control strategies, regional epidemiology, and policy interventions.
Education: BSc (Hons) Animal Science (Writtle University College, 2017), MSc Veterinary Microbiology (University of Surrey, 2018), PhD Veterinary Science (University of Surrey, 2023). Awards include the Doctoral College Studentship Award (2018) and Post Graduate Researcher of the Year (2022).
Her research interests emphasize the intersection of socioeconomic factors and disease management, particularly in low-resource settings. Collaborations include the CDC Atlanta, Global Alliance for Rabies Control, and the MERACON network. Key projects include the Amazonian Tropical Bites Research Initiative and evaluations of surveillance systems like OH-EpiCap.
Grants and advising: Taylor's fellowship supports her three-year research development. Her work has informed policy on rabies elimination and counterfeit vaccine prevention. She advocates for integrated approaches to tackle zoonotic diseases through interdisciplinary networks.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Diseases of Neglected Communities Group and the London Centre for Neglected Disease Research. Engages with global health organizations to translate research into actionable policies.
