Joanne Voisey

Associate Professor Joanne Voisey is affiliated with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), holding positions in the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Centre for Genomics and Personalised Health. She also coordinates the Master of Diagnostic Genomics program and teaches at QUT, Bond University, and the University of Queensland in medical biotechnology and genetics. Her expertise spans mental health, PTSD, epigenetics, and Indigenous well-being.

Education:

• B.Sc (Hons) in Genetics (University of Queensland)

Research focuses on epigenetic mechanisms in mental disorders, including schizophrenia and PTSD, particularly in veterans and Indigenous populations. Key areas include biomarker development, trauma resilience, and personalized medicine. She has co-authored over 75 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to commercialized DNA diagnostic patents.

Advising and Grants: Currently supervising 4 PhD students. Previously involved in the Cooperative Research Centre for DNA Diagnostics, securing patents (one commercialized by Qiagen). Active in science outreach through CSIRO's Professionals in Schools program.

Labs/Teams: Lead researcher in genomics and personalized health at QUT, collaborating on Indigenous health initiatives and lung transplant rejection biomarker studies.
