Joanne Hudson

Dr. Joanne Hudson is a Tutor on the MA Architecture and Urbanism (MAAU Studio) at the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) and concurrently serves as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Architecture and Landscape, University of Sheffield. She holds a PhD from Manchester Metropolitan University, exploring the creative potential of informal spaces. Her academic qualifications include a BA(Hons) in Architecture, a BArch, an MA in Art as Environment, and FHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy).

Her research focuses on urban dynamics, creative placemaking, and the role of design in fostering resilient communities. She emphasizes how marginalized groups appropriate urban spaces to address social inequities. Previously, she worked at Liverpool John Moores University as a Senior Lecturer, contributing to design and theory modules across multiple programs.

Dr. Hudson advocates for architecture and urban design that challenges societal inequalities, prioritizing participatory design and co-production. Her work bridges academic teaching, professional practice, and community engagement, reflecting her commitment to socially responsive design.
