Joanne A. McGriff, MD, MPH is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and Core Faculty in the Center for Global Safe WASH. She joined Emory in 2012 as a research professor and senior administrator of the Center for Global Safe WASH. Her current work focuses on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues in healthcare facilities globally. She is a descendant of Haitian parents and is fluent in Haitian Creole, with extensive experience in community development projects in Haiti.
Education
Dr. McGriff holds multiple advanced degrees:
- BA from Princeton University
- MD from University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
- MPH from University of Rochester Medical Center
- Juris Master from Emory University School of Law
Research Focus
Her interdisciplinary research spans global public health challenges, with particular emphasis on:
- Implementation of WASH programs in resource-limited settings
- Community-based health interventions
- Behavioral determinants of health in developing regions
- Health policy and leadership development

She teaches courses including GH 502 (Evidence-Based Policy, Programs & Research) and PUBH 520 (Foundations of Public Health Leadership Development). She maintains active involvement in the Center for Global Safe WASH research laboratory and previously collaborated with the Laboratory of Personality and Development at University of Rochester.
