Joanna Buchalska

Joanna Buchalska is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Law at Kozminski University with concurrent roles as a scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich, legal counsel at the Polish Supreme Court, and member of Kozminski's HR Excellence Accreditation Committee since 2015.

Her research spans copyright law, civil law, EU law, and industrial property with specialized focus on trademark law and brand management. Through the interdisciplinary MARKA project she founded, she examines brands through legal, economic, sociological, and financial lenses. Her work extends to legal frameworks for emerging technologies like vacuum railway systems as demonstrated in the GOSPOSTRATEG project.

Professor Buchalska leads the MARKA project (2014–present) and has participated in significant initiatives including COST action CA19102, the GOSPOSTRATEG project funded by Poland's National Centre for Research and Development, and the European Social Fund+ 'Right to Competence' project. Her international academic exchanges include the Max Planck Institute (Munich), Leicester Law School, and Masaryk University.

She actively disseminates research through publications and conferences while serving as editor for the intellectual property section of the 'Polish Private Law' blog at the Polish Academy of Sciences, bridging academic scholarship with judicial practice through her Supreme Court role.
