Joan Kaufman serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator in the Department of Interior Design at Judson University, where she has taught since January 2016.
Her academic credentials include:
- M.B.A./M.P.H. in Administration/Process Improvement (Summa Cum Laude) from Benedictine University
- B.S. in Interior Design (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- B.F.A. in Art History (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Her professional expertise spans Interior Design, Commercial Design, Sustainable Design (evidenced by LEED AP accreditation), and Design Education. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, reflecting her commitment to advancing design pedagogy.
Professional recognition includes her Fellowship status with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), earned through significant contributions to the field.
Dr. Kaufman founded Interior Planning & Design, Inc., an award-winning Naperville-based firm whose work has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, Architectural Lighting, Better Homes & Gardens, and other major publications. She maintains active leadership roles, having chaired the Illinois State Board of Registered Interior Design Professionals for seven years and currently serving on the ASID National Educations Qualifications and Professional Development Committee.
Her professional certifications include National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), LEED AP Accreditation, Illinois Registration, and Florida Licensure, alongside active membership in IDEC and CID Ambassador programs.
