Joan E Curry is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Arizona's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). She specializes in environmental chemistry, nanomaterials, and surface forces, with extensive research on biosurfactants, bacterial deposition patterns, and colloidal interactions. Her teaching focuses on environmental chemistry, organic chemistry, and science education, with courses like ENVS 340 and ENVS 210 spanning over two decades.
Dr. Curry's research explores topics such as rhamnolipid biosurfactant applications, ion flotation of rare earth elements, and evaporative deposition of bacteria. She has received multiple awards for teaching excellence, including the Provost's Award for Innovation in Teaching (2019) and the David E. Cox Faculty Teaching Award (2016). Her work integrates experimental and computational methods, often involving collaborations with engineers and biologists.
Her scholarly contributions span over 30 publications since 1992, with notable work on monolayer compressibility, green rust mineralogy, and synthetic biology applications. Curry's lab focuses on environmental remediation technologies and sustainable materials science.
