Jo Underwood is a Supervising Solicitor and Lecturer in Law at King’s Legal Clinic within The Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s College London. With over two decades of experience as a solicitor since 2003, she specializes in housing and public law. Her work focuses on improving policy and practice regarding homelessness, poor housing, and access to legal advice. She previously led Shelter’s strategic litigation team, spearheading high-profile cases in the Supreme Court involving homelessness, the benefit cap, and temporary housing placements.
Her research interests include housing law, legal aid, and access to justice. She actively contributes to policy, training, and media advocacy to address homelessness. Jo is a member of the Housing Law Practitioners Association and teaches the Student Law Clinic module as part of the LLB program. She co-organized a panel discussion on 'Women, Homelessness, and the Law' for International Women’s Day 2024.
Based at King’s Legal Clinic (Floor 4, Room 10, King’s Building, Strand Campus), her role combines legal practice, education, and advocacy to advance housing justice.
