Jo Skelton is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Maths and School Liaison at the School of Education, Humanities and Languages, Oxford Brookes University. She teaches on the Initial Teacher Education Programme, focusing on mathematics modules and dissertation supervision. She also serves as Academic Lead for International CPD in the Centre for Educational Consultancy and Development. Her research interests include translanguaging in multilingual contexts and mathematical understanding. She holds a BEd (Hons), MA, and is pursuing a PhD on translanguaging. Professional memberships include the British Educational Research Association (BERA), National Association of Mathematics Advisors (NAMA), and Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM).
Jo's career spans primary teaching, advisory roles, and consultancy. She was a 'leading' teacher mentoring others regionally and worked as a National-level consultant (2012-17). She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and ILM-qualified coach/mentor.
Teaching focuses include the International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE) and modules like 'Extending Mathematical Understanding' and 'STEAM Education.' Her research groups include Early Years Education, Applied Linguistics, and STEAM.
