Jo Horsburgh

Jo Horsburgh is a Principal Lecturer in Medical Education and Deputy Head of the Educational Development Unit at the Centre for Higher Education Research and Scholarship (CHERS), part of the Central Faculty at Imperial College London. She also serves as Deputy Director of the Medical Education Innovation and Research Centre (MEdIC) within the School of Public Health. Her roles include leading faculty development workshops, teaching on the MEd in University Learning and Teaching program, and supervising PhD students. She previously held leadership roles such as Director of Postgraduate Studies at CHERS (2018–2024) and Director of Education at the Royal College of Physicians.

Research Interests: Focuses on professional identity development of medical educators, equity and inclusion in higher education, learning from role models, and social accountability. She integrates insights from sociology and clinical sciences into educational practices.

Consultancy & Leadership: Provides educational expertise for national and international projects. Experience includes roles as Head of Department and Head of Year in further education, and leadership in medical education courses for doctors globally.
