Jo Carruthers is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Arts, Lancaster University, specializing in literature and the Bible, literature and place, and Victorian fiction. Her research explores aesthetics (aisthesis) through visual and sensuous experiences and political philosophy.
- Key research areas: Biblical reception studies, Victorian literature, spatial theory, and political aesthetics
- Current projects: Longitudinal analysis of Reformation theologies’ influence on British/American identities
She supervises PhD candidates in literature and the Bible, Victorian fiction, and creative writing. Her recent publications include The Politics of Purim (2020) and co-edited works on anticipatory materialism. She contributes to the Morecambe Bay Curriculum focusing on place-based learning.
