Jo-Anne H Young serves as a Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease and International Medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, specializing in Transplant and Cellular Therapy. Her research focuses on infectious complications in immunocompromised hosts, particularly hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplant recipients.
Her primary research interests include invasive fungal infections, cytomegalovirus management, BK polyomavirus nephropathy, and antiviral resistance mechanisms. She employs advanced diagnostic approaches including molecular assays and biomarker monitoring to address transplant-related infections. Her work significantly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Professor Young has led numerous high-impact clinical trials, including Phase 3 studies on maribavir for CMV infection, fosmanogepix for invasive mold infections, and novel therapies for HPV-associated respiratory papillomatosis. Her research demonstrates consistent funding through 88 projects totaling over $100 million, with recent grants from BASILEA PHARMACEUTICA, GILEAD SCIENCES, and MEMORIAL SLOAN-KETTERING CANCER CENTER.
- Editor in Chief, Clinical Microbiology Reviews (American Society for Microbiology, 2012–present)
She has secured continuous grant funding since 2005, with 183 total research outputs including 121 articles, 27 reviews, and 16 editorials. Her work shows strong collaboration networks across transplant centers globally, with significant focus on viral pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance in immunocompromised populations.
