Dr. Jo Ann Davidson serves as Professor of Systematic Theology in the Department of Theology & Christian Philosophy at Andrews University Theological Seminary. As the first woman to teach in the Theology department at Andrews University, she has broken new ground in Adventist theological education. Her academic journey began with BA and MA degrees from Andrews University, followed by a PhD in Systematic Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 2000.
Dr. Davidson's research interests span several key areas of theological inquiry:
- Systematic Theology, with particular focus on theological aesthetics
- Biblical interpretation, especially regarding the Decalogue and Genesis
- Sabbath theology and its contemporary applications
- Creation care and environmental ethics from a biblical perspective
- Women in Scripture and gender studies
- Trinitarian theology and Holy Spirit studies
Her scholarly output is impressive, with 141 research items including books, articles, chapters, and presentations. Recent work shows a continued focus on Sabbath rest, creation care, and biblical mission. Her publications consistently bridge academic theology with practical Christian living, making her work accessible to both scholarly and church audiences.
Dr. Davidson has received recognition through various speaking engagements, including invited talks on topics such as 'God is an artist,' 'How do you picture God?,' and 'The beauty of creation.' Her media contributions demonstrate her ability to communicate complex theological concepts to broader audiences.
As an educator and scholar, Dr. Davidson brings a unique perspective as a fourth-generation Seventh-day Adventist and former homeschooling mother. She finds fulfillment in multiple roles - as wife, mother, teacher, musician, and Christian - which likely informs her holistic approach to theological education and writing.
