Dr. Jiyong Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). He leads the Lee Lab, focusing on developing chemistry-based technologies to study protein interactions and drug discovery for neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. His research emphasizes real-time tracking of protein behavior to design drugs with higher efficacy and fewer side effects.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, UT Southwestern Medical Center (2009)
- Postdoctoral Research at The Scripps Research Institute (2009–2012)
- M.S. and B.S. in Chemistry from Yonsei University (2001 and 1999)
Research Interests: Dr. Lee’s work bridges biochemistry and medicinal chemistry. Key areas include:
- Targeting cancer stem cells for breast cancer treatment
- Understanding amyloid fibril formation in diseases like Alzheimer’s
- Designing novel therapeutic agents using nanotechnology and peptide conjugates
Grants & Awards:
- CPRIT Grant ($194,500) for breast cancer stem cell research
- Co-inventor on three patents related to drug development
Labs/Teams: The Lee Lab at UT Dallas focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to address unmet needs in oncology and neurodegenerative diseases.
