Professor Jitendrapal (Jit) Sharma holds the rank of Professor at the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University, where he served as the Inaugural Department Chair of Civil Engineering from 2013 to 2018. He brings extensive international academic experience, including roles at institutions in India, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the University of Saskatchewan (2001–2013), where he specialized in geotechnical engineering education and research. A licensed Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan and Ontario, and with Permission to Consult in Geotechnical Engineering in Saskatchewan, he is also a former Associate Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal (2006–2018).
His research focuses on theoretical and computational geomechanics, geotechnical centrifuge modeling, critical state soil mechanics, and innovative applications of web-based tools for flipped classroom methodologies. He has earned multiple teaching excellence awards for his student-centered approaches, emphasizing collaborative problem-solving and out-of-classroom learning.
Professor Sharma’s work bridges academia and industry, with interdisciplinary projects in geotechnical modeling, soil-structure interaction, and sustainable geotechnical practices. He maintains active collaborations with local and international engineering firms, contributing to practical solutions for ground improvement and geoenvironmental challenges.
