Dr. Jisuo Jin is a Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Western University, specializing in Ordovician-Silurian brachiopod paleontology. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan (1988) and has expertise in brachiopod taxonomy, mass extinction recovery, and paleobiogeography. His research focuses on the evolutionary and environmental dynamics of brachiopod communities across Laurentia and South China during the Ordovician and Silurian periods.
Research interests include the Ordovician-Silurian mass extinction's impact on brachiopod faunas, the role of environmental factors (e.g., anoxia, glaciation), and comparative studies between North American and South Chinese faunal records. He has authored/co-authored over 50 publications, including key papers on post-extinction recovery patterns and paleolatitudinal distributions.
- Ph.D.: University of Saskatchewan, 1988
- Teaching: Courses in Paleobiology, Dinosaur Evolution, and Advanced Paleontology
- Labs: Office and Lab in BGS 0180/1005, Western University
Publications emphasize lithological/geochemical proxies for ancient environments and multi-archive approaches to reconstructing mass extinction drivers. His work bridges field-based stratigraphy with morphological/systematic analyses to elucidate biotic responses to climatic shifts.
