Jinyi Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan, with prior roles as an Assistant Research Professor at Steward Observatory and a Strittmatter Fellow. She earned her Ph.D. in 2017 from Peking University. Her research focuses on high-redshift quasars (z > 6.5), cosmic reionization, and the formation of supermassive black holes (SMBHs), including their co-evolution with host galaxies. She has led a wide-field survey discovering the largest known sample of quasars from the reionization era, including three of the most distant quasars at z > 7.5, and is spearheading multi-wavelength follow-up studies using JWST and ALMA to explore SMBH-host interactions. As a Strittmatter Fellow, she investigates reionization history at z~6-7.5 and SMBH growth through newly constructed quasar samples.
