معرفی
Jinwoo Kim is a Research Scientist at the Roy M. Huffington Department of Earth Sciences, Southern Methodist University. His research focuses on geohazard monitoring using SAR/InSAR technology, with notable contributions to studies on sinkholes in West Texas, oil field deformation, and landslide dynamics. He holds a Ph.D. in Geodetic Science from The Ohio State University (2013).
Education:
- Ph.D., Geodetic Science, The Ohio State University, 2013
- M.S., Remote Sensing & GIS, Yonsei University, 2007
- B.S., Civil Engineering, Yonsei University, 2005
Research Interests:
Kim specializes in applying satellite radar imagery (InSAR) to monitor environmental and geotechnical hazards such as sinkholes, landslides, and subsidence caused by human activities like oil extraction. His work integrates remote sensing with hydrological and geological data to assess risks in regions like the Permian Basin and Alaska.
Publications Highlight:
His recent work includes studies on sinkhole evolution, oil well blowouts, and P-band SAR applications. Notable findings on Wink Sinkholes' growth and Permian Basin deformation have been widely reported in media.
Awards:
- NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship
- Distinguished Senior PhD Student Award, Ohio State University
Advising & Grants:
Kim collaborates extensively with institutions like NASA and the National Science Foundation. He leads projects on InSAR-based hazard monitoring and has advised graduate students in remote sensing and geophysics.
Labs/Teams:
He is affiliated with the SMU Radar Laboratory, focusing on advancing SAR techniques for Earth surface deformation analysis.
