Jingyao Dai is an Assistant Professor at the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on advanced materials and composites for aerospace applications, including polymer and ceramic nanocomposites, sustainable manufacturing, and materials for extreme environments. He holds a Ph.D. (2021), M.S. (2017), and B.Eng. (2014) in Aerospace Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and Beihang University, China. Prior to his current role, he was a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT (2021–2024).
His work emphasizes fracture mechanics of ceramic composites, nanoporous network-enabled manufacturing, and aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) systems for applications in thermal protection, energy storage, and aerospace components. Recent projects include developing void-free carbon fiber composites via capillary effects and high-performance bipolar plates for vanadium redox batteries.
Publications highlight innovations in composite fabrication, micromechanical modeling, and material characterization. His research bridges nanoscale material science with large-scale aerospace engineering challenges.
Lab and team activities focus on interdisciplinary materials development with collaborations in nanotechnology, sustainable manufacturing, and aerospace systems. His teaching includes courses on heterogeneous materials mechanics and advanced structural design.
