Jing Yin is a Professor and Chair of the Communication Department at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, also affiliated with the Gender & Women’s Studies Department and the Humanities Division. She holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communications from Pennsylvania State University and has been with UH Hilo since 2007, previously serving as an Assistant Professor at Clemson University. Dr. Yin’s research explores Chinese media globalization, media discourse representation, and non-Western feminist communication theory. Her work has been recognized with a Top Paper Award from the National Communication Association.
Her scholarly contributions include co-editing The Global Intercultural Communication Reader (2008, 2014) and guest-editing a special section in China Media Research. She has published widely in journals such as Critical Discourse Studies, Journal of International and Intercultural Communication, and Howard Journal of Communications. Dr. Yin serves on editorial boards for several journals and has reviewed manuscripts for leading publications in communication studies.
Her teaching spans Media and Culture, Mass Media Analysis, and Intercultural Communication. She is a Fellow at the Molefi Kete Asante Institute for Afrocentric Studies, reflecting her commitment to interdisciplinary and culturally grounded scholarship. Her research critically examines cultural identity, media ethics, and the intersection of globalization with traditional cultural values.
