Jing Shi is a Professor and Program Chair of Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University (2004) and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing (1998), alongside a B.E. in Materials Engineering from the same institution (1992).
His research focuses on additive manufacturing, advanced materials, and manufacturing systems. Notable areas include laser-assisted processing of high-performance alloys, metamaterials design, and smart manufacturing integration. He has led major grants, including a National Science Foundation project on magnetic field-assisted laser deposition and industry partnerships like the UC-DDLC Center for Smart Additive Manufacturing.
Research interests emphasize epitaxial growth of single-crystal metals, nanocomposite materials, and blockchain applications in manufacturing and emergency logistics. His work bridges materials science with industrial engineering, addressing challenges in microstructure control, energy-efficient production, and disaster response systems.
Jing Shi has secured over $4M in grants, collaborating with federal agencies and industry partners. His publications span journals like Journal of Materials Science and Materials Science and Engineering, addressing topics such as texture control in nickel alloys and auxetic metamaterials. Current projects include smart safety helmets for workplace injury prevention and AI-driven property prediction in additive manufacturing.
