Dr Jing Liu is an Assistant Professor in Accounting at the Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham, where she also completed her PhD in 2024. Her research focuses on management accounting within public sector organisations, particularly hospital accounting in Chinese and global contexts.

Her research interests include management accounting in the public sector, hospital accounting, accounting history, and professionalism in not-for-profit organisations, with a specific focus on the Chinese context. She employs qualitative research methods to explore accounting practices and their impact on professionals and institutions.
Dr Liu is actively engaged in the academic community, serving as an Executive Board Member for the Public Service & Charities Special Interest Group of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA), contributing to the advancement of public sector accounting research. She has presented her work at international conferences including those by BAFA and the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM).
She has been recognized for her research with the third-place award for the Centre for Responsible Business prize at the Midlands Regional Doctoral Colloquium. Her academic service includes serving as PGR student representative and organizing the Birmingham Business School Doctoral Conference in 2021 and 2022.
Dr Liu teaches Decision Making & Control at the undergraduate level and supervises MSc dissertations in Accounting & Finance and Business Analytics. She welcomes PhD applicants with qualitative research interests in public sector accounting, including management accounting in public and not-for-profit organisations, hospital accounting, and accounting history in the Chinese context.
