Dr. Jin Zeng (Julie) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Politics and International Relations within the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Florida International University, where she also serves as the Director of the Asian Studies Program.

Her research focuses on the political economy of development, Chinese investment in Latin America, and agrarian studies in contemporary China. She has extensively studied rural land reform and China’s economic interactions with Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), particularly through her fieldwork in China and LAC nations.
Dr. Zeng’s publications highlight her expertise in land titling dynamics and China’s geopolitical strategies. Her 2020 article in The Journal of Peasant Studies examines local responses to land reforms in China, while her upcoming trilogy will analyze Huawei’s economic expansion in LAC amid U.S.-China tensions.
She has advised doctoral student Yuanhao Tian and collaborated with scholars like Carlos Cascante and Thomas Breslin on cross-disciplinary research projects. Her teaching includes courses on international political economy, East Asian international relations, and comparative privatization studies, with a new graduate course on the Asian Century launching in Fall 2025.
Dr. Zeng’s lab and team affiliations include leading the Asian Studies Program and conducting fieldwork in China, Chile, Brazil, and Costa Rica to explore the intersection of economic reform and global development.
