Dr. Jin Byun is Lecturer of Music and Director of Music Performance at Union College. He holds a B.A. from Seoul National University, a Performer Diploma from Indiana University, an M.M. from Queens College, and a D.M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of Connecticut.
His expertise spans choral and orchestral conducting, opera, art song, musical theater, and diction (French, German, Italian, Korean). Current research focuses on Korean diction resources for English-speaking musicians. As Artistic Director of the Oratorio Society of Queens and President of NATS South Korea Chapter, he maintains active professional engagements.
His scholarly awards include top honors from the Opera Guild Competition, Marie E. Crump Vocal Arts Competition, and CS Vocal Competition among others. His book on Korean diction methodology will be published in 2024.
