معرفی
Jim Giovannoni is an Adjunct Professor in the Section of Plant Biology at Cornell University's School of Integrative Plant Science and a USDA-ARS Plant Molecular Biologist. He also serves as the Director of the USDA-ARS Robert W. Holley Center for Agriculture and Health. His work focuses on the molecular and genetic regulation of fruit ripening, particularly in tomato, and its implications for nutritional quality and crop improvement.
Research Focus:
- Fruit ripening and hormonal signaling
- Tomato genomics and gene regulation
- Carotenoid metabolism and lycopene biosynthesis
- Ethylene and abscisic acid signaling pathways
- Genomic tools for Solanaceae improvement
Scientific Awards:
- Elected to the National Academy of Sciences (2016)
- USDA Secretary of Agriculture Honor (2014)
- Agricultural Research Service Award (2011)
- Listed among the World's 'Most Influential Scientific Minds' (2016)
Lab and Grants:
Jim Giovannoni leads a well-funded research group at the Boyce Thompson Institute and USDA-ARS. His lab has received major support from USDA, NSF, and private partners like FFAR. The lab has also contributed to large-scale genomics initiatives such as the International Tomato Sequencing Project and the Tomato Expression Atlas. He mentors a diverse group of graduate students and postdocs.
