Jim Geach

Jim Geach is a Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Hertfordshire, working within the School of Physics, Engineering & Computer Science and based at the Centre for Astrophysics Research (CAR). He holds a prestigious Royal Society University Research Fellowship and is actively involved in the Centre of Data Innovation Research.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Durham University (2008)

Geach's research centers on galaxy formation and evolution, with specific expertise in cold gas dynamics in galaxies and environmental influences on galactic development. His work leverages major international facilities including the VISTA-CFHT Stripe 82 Survey (where he serves as principal investigator) and the JCMT/SCUBA-2 Cosmology Legacy Survey (where he is survey scientist), focusing on submillimeter astronomy and cosmological evolution.

His recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate cutting-edge research using JWST to probe the Epoch of Reionization, high-redshift magnetic fields, and galactic outflows. These works reveal strong trends in observational cosmology, star formation physics, and multi-wavelength analysis of galaxy evolution across cosmic time.
